Brandon Martinez from Wildwood Middle High School has been nominated by the State of Florida for the prestigious U.S. Presidential CTE Scholar Award.

Martinez is one of among only five nominees from the entire state for this recognition.

This award recognizes students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical educational fields.

Students are nominated through their chief state school officer who can nominate up to five candidates who meet the U.S. Presidential Scholars candidacy requirements.

Martinez says it’s a great honor to be nominated for this award.

“I been nominated for awards before, but nothing as prestigious as this,” he said.

The CTE class Martinez is in is the HVAC program. This stands for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

Along with that he’s been in an apprenticeship position for this career, and he completely loves every single step of the process. Whether it’s talking to customers or diagnosing machines.

For his future, Martinez says there’s some consideration on going to the HVAC field.

“I’ve got two choices, I could either focus on college and have HVAC as a side profession or I could focus on Mechanical Engineering for HVAC units,” Martinez said.
