Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – Many across SWLA are still without power this morning following the severe weather that swept through the area yesterday evening.
As a result of the power outages the following schools are closed today:
- LaGrange High School
- Johnson Bayou High School
Additionally, the following schools will have early dismissal at 9:30 a.m. The Calcasieu Parish School Board says normal dismissal procedures will be followed:
- Brenda Hunter Head Start
- Oak Park Middle
According to Entergy and BECi’s websites, at 8 a.m., there were about 3,300 residents without power. As of 12 p.m., that number has dropped to around 2,000.
Beauregard Electric says its crews worked throughout the night restoring power to over 10,000 members in its seven-parish service area. Crews replaced and reset approximately 15 poles while clearing debris and repairing utility lines. BECi and contract crews are continuing to work to restore power to the remaining residents and expect to have the work completed by the end of the day.
However, BECi says there are a few meters that are inaccessible due to high water along the Sabine and Calcasieu River, and will not be able to access this area until the water recedes. They say their thoughts and prayers are with their community of Ragley and those who experienced damage to their homes.
