POURING grease down the drain can destroy your pipes—but dumping the hot liquid into the garbage can make a mess.

Fortunately, one woman has shared her trick for throwing grease away without damaging her kitchen sink and drains – and it’s also completely mess-free.

TikToker and appliance expert Chelsea Flora posted a video with a helpful tip for disposing of grease.

When grease is hot, it’s in liquid form, which means it’s pourable—and can easily be poured down a drain.

However, once grease cools down, it solidifies.

If it solidifies inside your kitchen drains, it will lead to a clog formation that can cost hundreds of dollars to repair.

Hardened grease is incredibly difficult to remove due to its thickness and texture.

Chelsea says: “After hearing of so many people clogging their drain with grease, I figured I would show an easy technique I do to avoid dumping grease down the drain completely.”

Chelsea cooks ground meat in a pan until the fat separates, creating a pool of grease.

Instead of pouring it down her drain, she puts tin foil in the shape of a cup into the drain.

Then, she pours the grease into the foil through a strainer to keep her cooked meat safe.

After that, Chelsea moves the foil filled with liquid grease into the freezer.

Once the grease freezes up, she takes it from the freezer and tosses it into the trash can.

Frozen grease won’t cause immediate fires or uncontrolled flames the way that hot, liquified grease can.

Almost 3,000 have written back to Chelsea in her comment section on TikTok.

One person said: “Thank you so much for this!”

“This just changed my life – thank you!” another person added.

A third user wrote: “I do the same but instead, I pour the oil into an empty can I’m already going to dispose of.”

“My family usually just flushes it down the toilet,” someone else said as an alternative solution.
