Christmas Trees in BC Could be in Short Supply Heading into the Holiday Season

Christmas trees are a $100 million plus industry in Canada, but a supply shortage may make this year’s return fall a bit short.

According to the BC Christmas Tree Association, the province is facing a shortage of as much as 500,000 trees heading into the holiday season.

They say that a reduced number of growers, increased costs, and wildfires and heat waves over the past few years play a big role in the shortage.

But, since the trees take up to 10 years to go grow, the problem also stems from a lack of trees planted as much as a decade ago.

Regardless of the cause, those looking to pick up a real tree this year should probably look to hit the market sooner rather than later.
